CARING FOR THE COVID-19 PATIENT AT OLD AGE HOMES

Older people are especially more vulnerable to COVID-19.

Research is showing that adults 60 and older, especially those with

pre-existing medical conditions, like heart disease, lung disease,

diabetes or cancer are more likely to have severe - even deadly -

coronavirus infection than other age groups. Probably one of the

worst fears for caregivers in old age homes caring for the COVID-19

patient is to get exposed to the novel coronavirus and infected other

patients and family. This course is designed to rapidly develop the

competency of caregivers at old age homes. This course focusses on

provision of care for COVID-19 patients in old age homes, when to

refer patients, keeping care givers safe through the correct use of

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), nutrition, palliative and how

to produce own PPE when not available.
